When in Layouts mode, you can use the Command Palette to quickly search for and add components to the Canvas. To open the Palette, use the keyboard shortcuts Control+Shift+P (Windows) or Command+Shift+P (Mac). 

Type part of the name of the component you wish to add, such as “View,” and components that match your search will be displayed. Simply click on a component to add it to the active Layout.
